From July 8 to July 14, 2024, Prof. Yang Jiao and doctoral student Hanyuan Liu attended the “Polymer Chemistry and Physics” summer class in Changchun. The event was hosted by Jilin University and was attended by 125 students and 45 young teachers from 40 universities and research institutions across the country for a seven-day course. The aim was to consolidate the theoretical foundation of the participants, cultivate young teachers, and serve as a trial lecture for the “Polymer Chemistry and Physics” course under the Ministry of Education’s “101 Plan” for Chemistry, widely collecting suggestions and opinions.
The summer class boasted an impressive array of faculty, including the esteemed Academician Xi Zhang, Prof. Shiying Liu, the coordinator of the course’s textbook, along with a cadre of distinguished professors and emerging educators such as Kun Liu, Guanglu Wu, Jian Zhu, Biao Zuo, Qian Huang, Xinghong Zhang, Zhihao Shen, Caili Huang, Hui Huang, Weitai Wu, Jiangfei Xu, Feng Wang, You Yu, and Xuzhou Yan. Additionally, Professors Jia Niu, Hua Lü, and Ruibing Wang contributed with thought-provoking academic lectures. The curriculum spanned the breadth of polymer chemistry and physics, from fundamentals to cutting-edge applications, encompassing topics such as polymer solutions, aggregation state structures, dynamic behavior and mechanical properties, characterization techniques, step polymerization, free radical polymerization, ionic and coordination polymerization, ring-opening polymerization, polymer chemical reactions, supramolecular polymerization, and sustainable polymer materials. The extensive and meticulous content greatly enriched the attendees, not only solidifying their theoretical grasp but also expanding their research horizons. Throughout the program, Ph.D. student Liu Hanyuan was an active participant, posing insightful questions, offering constructive feedback on the course, and engaging in meaningful exchanges during group discussions.
